I just watched my CBS News video With Walter Cronkite called "Celebrate Man On The Moon, with Walter Cronkite, hosted by Dan Rather". It was made in 1989.

Walter Cronkite and his side kick, some old fart that (thank god I can't remember his name) couldn't keep his big mouth shut talked and talked, while Neil Armstrong took the first step on the moon...they had to ask somone at NASA now known as ASS-A for recording over the original tapes of the moon landing...they had to ask "What did Neil say?" And then Walter continued to STEP ON the astronauts broadcast from the Moon...Let me point out the SIZE of Wally Corncakes EGO...it was so "BIG" he thought everyone wanted to hear him talk, and not the FIRST MEN ON THE MOON IN THE HISTORY OF ALL MANKIND...holy shit...Walter you fucking jerk....I remember screaming SHUT UP WALTER WE WANT TO HEAR NEIL ON THE MOON, NOT YOU, WE HEAR YOU EVERY GOD DAMNED DAY, NIGHT AND DAY, WEEK AFTER WEEK, SHUT THE FUCK UP WALLY YOU ASSHOLE...I CAN'T HEAR WHAT THE HELL NEIL JUST SAID....YOU JERK-OFF DICKWEED!

But Walter kept on talking with his BIG NOSE monotone sounding voice...as if what he said was more important than what the astronauts said...he makes me sick...self absorbed, ego fucking maniac...he was NO EDWARD R. MURROW.

I am so glad NIXON was President when we landed on the Moon, Nixon had class, he went on the USS Hornet and greeted the first men on the moon back to earth. Nixon called them on the Phone and talked to the first men on the moon, and we all had NO PROBLEM hearing Nixon...then there was the PLAQUE with Nixon's signature on it that was left on the Moon by Neil and Buzz, and is still there to this day...July 20, 1969....

Walter Cronkite will be forever known as the News Anchor that couldn't shut the fuck up while Neil Armstrong said, "it's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"....

RIP

Walter Cronkite

You poor dumb dead bastard.

Wow, you got it bad for ole Walter Gesundheit, eh? (Vonnegut's term of endearment) Never a big fan of the ole one-world-government liberal myself. I'd like to correct one thing, though...I don't know what "old fart sidekick" you saw on the retrospective, but in 69 his partner was Mercury astronaut Walter Schirra, and I remember Schirra explicitly "shushing" Cronkite on many, many occasions. I'm still grateful. Ole Cronkite had the verbal diarrhea, bad.

Eric Sevareid aka "The Grey Eminence" was Walter Cronkite's side kick when Apollo Landed on the Moon, Schira was there for the LIFT OFF.

I bought the video when the video stores were going out of business, it's called CELEBRATE MAN ON THE MOON with Walter Cronkite, it was made in 1989 and is hosted by Dan Rather, You can probably buy the video on ebay for $1 or less.

You are right about wally schira being there...but it was Sevareid that was sittin there with Cronkite when Neil stepped onto the Moons surface.

Here's a taste of the video:

You won't hear Walter Cronkite talking over Neil in the clip, but he does on the video as you watch it "as it happened". The Clip is edited.

Here's the vid on ebay...$10:

Oh yeah, Severeid. ANOTHER doddering old fool. Played himself in The Right Stuff. Did the opinion piece at the end of the CBS Evening Lies. Even more in love with his voice than Cronkite; at least he wasn't as excessively verbose.

I missed the originall or repeat broadcast of the Moon Landing with Walter anchoring, and missed the Nixon welcome back thing.

But if what you say ('bout Walter) is true, it's a good insight into his persona.

BTW, I went conservative in '68, living in Colorado that year, Nixon - I was just a young teenager but I thought Nixon was "the one".

Then back in California, the following year I attended a free screening at radical SF State (College) of Nixon's "Checkers" speech...
and all around me, students were snickering...
it altered me forever.

Insanity is contageous.

The clincher was seeing Monkey Business on the big screen in '69 (The Marx Bros. zany crazed classic, pure anarchy).

Never been the same since!

It's true about Walter talkin while Neil spoke those famous words...Walter and Eric Sevareid aka "The Grey Eminence" could not stand to be quite for a moment.

The Marx Brothers were great, but I've always had a thing for the 3 Stooges...

Nixon was a crook.

And selling out to China by shipping our jobs overseas, the start of deficit spending to hide the costs of war, domestic spying, dirty tricks, etc is a legacy that takes awhile to burn off.

Nixon wouldn't make it through a GOP primary these days - he would be too liberal.

Hmmm--do some homework on Tricky Dick and his time in CA.

Yes, I afraid he is guilty of much more than "charged with a crime".

This is a fact, and he admitted it. Fraud, libel, slander. Now, it is true that many folks, him first of all, few these CRIMINAL acts as "necessary evils" of campaigning, BUT do not for a minute think that he was not guilty of any number of such crimes.

I would think you would lionize these acts as what he and McCarthy had to do to stop the Yellow Menace...how on Earth could you be a supporter of Nixon and not agree with him that sometimes the ends justify the means?

He said that repeatedly.

You sir, are not fit to speak of Dick as a hero.
